Process

Available ability to synchronize the performance of pasteurizers with the performance of the filling line

Implementation of various temperature modes of product processing in one installation and the ability to connect external equipment (separator, homogenizer) ensures the versatility of the pasteurizer.

Operating principle

Initial product is fed into the receiving tank where a special device fills it up to a specific level. From there the product is pumped into the regeneration section (sections) of the multisection plate preheating machine and then it is transferred to the pasteurization section where it is heated to the specified temperature. After that the heated product is moved to the holder, from which it is further transported in consecutive order to the regeneration and cooling sections. Upon the customer’s request recuperation sections can include outputs to the separator and homogenizer.
The product is heated to the required temperature in the pasteurization section by hot water circulating in a closed steam heating circuit.
Milk is cooled to the required temperature in two stages according to the counterflow principle: first, in the regeneration section (s) by the initial cold product and then by a coolant (ice water, etc.) in the cooling section.
The multifunctional pasteurizer has an additional circuit for preparing hot water and additional sections of a plate heat exchanger to ensure different temperatures of the product at the outlets, for example, for hot filling, or for discharging warm pasteurized milk for its further fermentation and obtaining fermented milk products

Automation

Product processing in the pasteurizer is fully automated. Control system for this process is based on the Omron PLCs (Japan). Pasteurization temperature accuracy is ensured by the implementation of automated PID-control of the temperature when operating the steam supply valve.

Initial output of the product is approved by the operator. After that control system monitors the temperature conditions of pasteurization and in case of its violation the installation switches to the circulation along the internal circuit until the preset conditions are restored.

The use of the operator's touch panel allows for a range of process visualization types in digital and graphic forms with the issuance of messages in response to operator actions and emergency situations (SKADA-system functions). The parameters of the technological process of pasteurization are set in a separate window. The pasteurizer implements the function of archiving the values of the process parameters on a customer’s preferrable form of information carrier, which makes it possible to implement the documentation of the entire technological process.

A high level of automation via the use of USB and Ethernet ports allows, at the request of the customer, to provide the ability to connect the pasteurizer to the upper-level system and the Computer-Aided Process Control System of the enterprise.

Manually operated semi-automatic pasteurizers

All OKL-series pasteurizers are similar in their design.

In manually operated pasteurizers pumps, hot water and product circuits heating, as well as “circulation”, “pasteurization” and “drain” modes are activated by switches. Temperature conditions are set and regulated by Omron temperature regulators, which control the steam supply valves in the hot water preparation circuits, in accordance with PID regulation law.

The station’s condition is visualized through light indicators, and the temperature conditions are indicated on the temperature regulators. A paper or electronic recorder is used to archive temperature conditions. Temperature conditions are set by the operator on the temperature regulators and on the recorder that also shows the temperature graph.

The pasteurizer also monitors the product level in the receiving tank and the pressure in the product lines and hot water circuits.

Features and advantages

Design specifics (for all versions of pasteurizers)

Plate heat exchanger has several sections (3 for basic version: regeneration, pasteurization and cooling) and consists of a bed with clasping devices, a set of gasketed heat exchanging plates, spacer and press plates. The heat exchanger includes heat exchanging stainless steel plates. Each side of each plate has passages for product movement on one side and heat-transfer or cooling agent movement on the other side. Leak tightness of the assembled device is ensured by rubber gaskets (NBR, EPDM), inserted in specific slots of the plate.
The holding device is a pipeline system that gives the product a set holding time at the pasteurization temperature.
The receiving tank is a cylindrical container with a level regulator, which ensures a constant level of filling with the product
The hot water preparation unit consists of a brazed heat exchanger, an expansion tank and a safety assembly
Hot water is supplied to the pasteurization circuit via stainless steel centrifugal pump manufactured by the Grundfos company (Germany)
